ED Observation

The Emergency Department Observation Unit (EDOU) at SIUH is an 8 bed unit that provides a dedicated area to safely and effectively treat patients with certain conditions that necessitate a lengthy observation period prior to a decision to admit or discharge.  The EDOU serves as an extension of the Emergency Department evaluation beyond the traditional three to four hour visit.  The goal of the EDOU at SIUH is to improve the quality of medical care given to patients through an extended evaluation and treatment period.  The benefit of this continued patient management is better definition of the patient’s disease process.
