  • The first 10 minutes are vital in treating a patient with respiratory distress in the ED.

  • Have a systematic approach to these patients.

  • Always be prepared with your airway equipment and devices.

  • Ultrasound is a vital extension of the physical exam.

  • A VBG can provide useful information in a patient whose trajectory you are unsure of.
