This article has limited use for the ED, however, I would like to implore you all to consider thinking about your own vent settings after intubating a patient. If you are interested in skimming it, it's not a bad read but essentially be aware that oxygen free radicals are detrimental in ED/ICU patient care and your patients should not spend more time than necessary on high FiO2 (even if they are already on FiO2 of 40 or 50% in the ICU). Please try to wean FiO2 as tolerated and use PEEP instead.
